Biteko: Tanzanians to benefit economically from CHAN 2025 and AFCON 2027

Dar es Salaam. Tanzanians are set to reap numerous economic and social benefits as the nation prepares to host the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

This was revealed on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr Doto Biteko, while officiating the Sports Stakeholders’ Forum for CHAN 2025 and AFCON 2027 held in Dar es Salaam.

“Our country has earned immense international recognition, and this is not by chance. It is a result of the democratic growth championed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan across various nations globally,” stated Dr Biteko.

Dr Biteko commended sports stakeholders for their initiative in organising the forum, which aims to identify and promote opportunities arising from these tournaments.

He emphasised that the events will attract numerous visitors from across the globe, underscoring the importance of meticulous preparations to maximise benefits in sectors such as transportation, accommodation, and entertainment.

“These tournaments will stimulate our national economy, enabling various groups and companies to engage in business activities, thereby boosting their financial well-being and contributing to poverty alleviation among our citizens,” he added.

Furthermore, Dr Biteko lauded President Samia for her leadership in promoting Tanzanian participation in the sports sector, which he highlighted as an avenue for young people to enhance their economic prospects.

Speaking at the same event, the Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Mr Hamis Mwinjuma, noted that the forum aimed to gather input from stakeholders and analyse the opportunities that CHAN 2025 and AFCON 2027 will bring, ensuring that Tanzanians are well-positioned to benefit.

CHAN 2025 is scheduled for August this year, while AFCON will take place in 2027.
