Simba crowned kings of Group A

Dar es Salaam. Simba SC have delighted their fans by finishing top of Group A in the CAF Confederation Cup after defeating CS Constantine 2-0 in a thrilling encounter.

The Tanzanian giants secured the top spot with 13 points from six matches, which included four wins, one draw, and one loss.

CS Constantine, on the other hand, finished second with 12 points from four wins and two losses.

Simba opened the scoring in the 61st minute through Kibu Denis.

The striker fired a powerful long-range shot after receiving an assist from Elie Mpanzu, who had earlier missed two clear chances.

Kibu’s third goal of the competition cemented his growing reputation, as his pace and runs caused constant trouble for CS Constantine’s defense.

The second goal came in the 79th minute when Leonel Ateba found the back of the net.

Ateba capitalized on a brilliant pass from full-back Shomari Kapombe to secure the victory and ensure Simba’s dominance.

The statistics reflected Simba’s superiority throughout the match.

They dominated possession with 69 percent, leaving CS Constantine to chase the ball for most of the game with only 31 percent possession.

Simba registered 20 goal attempts, with five shots on target, while CS Constantine managed just one attempt on target.

Simba also created four big chances compared to none from their Algerian counterparts.

The Tanzanian side earned seven corners, highlighting their relentless pressure in attack, while CS Constantine had just three.

The road to the quarterfinals

Simba’s win marks a significant achievement as they now head into the quarterfinals as group leaders.

There are two key benefits they will gain after finishing first in the group in this season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Firstly, they will secure the advantage of playing the first leg of the quarterfinals away and the second leg at home, as outlined in the tournament’s regulations.

Their strong performances throughout the group stage have given them an edge and boosted their confidence.

Topping the group could prove crucial in securing a favorable draw for the next stage.

CS Constantine, despite their defeat, also advance to the quarterfinals as runners-up.
