Tanzanian govt pledges free and fair elections

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzanian government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that this year’s general election is conducted fairly and transparently.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan made the remarks during the Eid Baraza held in Dar es Salaam on March 31, 2025, where she called upon Tanzanians to safeguard national unity and not allow political divisions to take root.

“We must remember that life continues after elections. Let us not allow politics to divide us,” she said.

The theme of this year’s Eid Baraza, Peace is the Foundation of Development – Participate in Elections Safely and Peacefully, underscores the government’s emphasis on stability during the electoral process.

President Samia stressed that any attempt to disrupt peace would be met with firm legal measures.

“We will not tolerate anyone who tries to disturb our peace,” she warned.

She further assured the public and investors that Tanzania remains a stable and secure business environment despite the election season.

This reassurance is part of broader efforts to sustain investor confidence, particularly given that foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows have surpassed $1 billion since 2023.

President Samia also highlighted that security agencies have been instructed to uphold public order throughout the electoral process to ensure a peaceful and intimidation-free environment.

“The security organs are fully prepared to uphold law and order so that every voter can exercise their democratic right peacefully,” she affirmed.

As the country moves towards the polls, the government continues to urge political parties, candidates, and the public to embrace dialogue, tolerance, and national interests over partisan differences.
