Dar es Salaam. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Friday May 2, 2025 said the government values the significant contribution made by the private sector in enhancing the wellbeing of Tanzanians through community-centred development initiatives.
Mr Majaliwa made the remarks while representing President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the centennial celebrations and 100th district conference of Rotary International District 9214, comprising Tanzania and Uganda.
The event took place at the Super Dome Conference Hall in Masaki, Dar es Salaam.
“Our government is committed to strengthening sincere partnerships with Rotarians so that we may jointly advance Tanzania’s development agenda,” said the Premier.
He noted that Rotary clubs have been instrumental in improving the lives of people in need, particularly in the areas of health, water, and education.
“These contributions are visible through projects such as the drilling of boreholes in rural communities, the renovation and furnishing of classrooms, as well as the supply of medical equipment to health centres,” he said.
The Prime Minister also highlighted recent recognition accorded to President Samia, who received the prestigious Gates Goalkeepers Award for what he described as “landmark achievements” during her leadership, including an 80 percent reduction in maternal mortality.
“Under President Samia’s leadership, the government has significantly increased health funding, enhanced the availability of medicines and medical supplies, and constructed over 530 maternity facilities across the country to curb maternal and child mortality,” he said.
Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Daniel Sillo, who also addressed the gathering, commended Rotary for its efforts but reminded stakeholders of the need to adhere to the regulatory requirements set out by the registrar of community-based organisations.
“We appreciate the work you do, but it is equally important to comply with the registration requirements to ensure transparency, accountability, and the sustainability of your initiatives,” he said.
