Mtwara. Investors in the mining sector have been urged to seize the vast opportunities available in Mtwara Region, which is endowed with a variety of mineral resources, including strategic minerals essential for industrial development.

The call was made by Senior Mines Engineer, Michael Mtatiro, who was speaking on behalf of the Regional Mining Officer, Winnifrida Mrema, during a special interview with journalists preparing a documentary highlighting the achievements of Tanzania’s mining sector.

“There are various types of minerals in Mtwara, including those extracted from heavy mineral sands, such as rutile, titanium, ilmenite and zircon,” said Mtatiro.

Providing an update on revenue performance in the region, Mtatiro revealed that Mtwara Region was tasked with collecting Sh9.18 billion in the 2024/25 financial year. So far, he said, the region has collected Sh7.14 billion, which represents 75 percent of the target.

“We are confident that by the end of June, we will have achieved 100 percent of our revenue target,” he added.

Mtwara Region has in recent years gained attention for its mineral potential, especially in the southern mineral corridor, where exploration activities are increasingly expanding.

Stakeholders believe that strategic investments in mining will not only contribute to the region’s economic growth but also create employment and stimulate industrial development, particularly in value addition and mineral processing.
