Flightlink launches Dar-Mwanza flights via Kilimanjaro

The inaugural flight was received with a brief welcoming ceremony at Mwanza Airport, attended by aviation stakeholders and government officials

Mwanza. Flightlink has officially launched its scheduled passenger flights between Dar es Salaam and Mwanza via Kilimanjaro International Airport, with operations commencing today, July 1, 2025.

The inaugural flight was received with a brief welcoming ceremony at Mwanza Airport, attended by aviation stakeholders and government officials.

Speaking at the event, the director general of the Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA), Mr Abdul Athumani Mombokaleo, commended Flightlink for expanding travel options for air passengers bound for the Lake Zone.

He described the move as a timely contribution to enhancing regional connectivity and easing access to economic opportunities in northern Tanzania.

“The entry of Flightlink on this route increases competitiveness and convenience for travellers, especially in a region endowed with vast potential in mining, agriculture, fisheries, and tourism,” said Mr Mombokaleo.

He also urged other domestic airlines to consider launching routes to the Lake Zone in order to stimulate economic activity in Mwanza and surrounding regions.

In further remarks, Mr Mombokaleo revealed that the Tanzania Airports Authority is in the process of developing a dedicated mobile application in collaboration with local airlines.

The application is aimed at promoting domestic air travel and will also support initiatives to introduce special fare discounts for key groups, including students and people with special needs, in an effort to make air travel more accessible.

Mwanza Airport Manager, Ms Rose Comino, expressed gratitude for the launch of the new route, noting that Flightlink’s entry increases to three the number of airlines now operating scheduled flights between Dar es Salaam and Mwanza.

“The addition of Flightlink strengthens competition and expands options for passengers travelling to Mwanza and neighbouring areas,” she said.

Mwanza Airport is currently undergoing extensive upgrades aimed at transforming it into an international-standard facility, capable of serving the broader Great Lakes region with improved infrastructure and service delivery.
