Dar es Salaam. Tanzania has officially welcomed the inaugural cargo flight by Xerin Air Cargo from Dubai, marking the launch of regular freight services between the United Arab Emirates and Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam.
The development is expected to enhance trade efficiency, reduce logistics costs, and improve reliability for Tanzanian exporters.
The newly introduced service by the specialised air freight carrier provides a much-needed logistical solution for traders dealing in perishable and time-sensitive goods such as fruits, flowers, meat, and other agricultural produce.
The direct connection to Dubai offers Tanzanian exporters faster access to international markets while preserving the quality of their products.
Speaking during the reception ceremony at JNIA on July 2, 2025, the Director of Finance and Business at the Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA), Mr Shadrack Chilongani, said the service will significantly boost the agriculture and trade sectors.
“This new cargo service by Xerin Air Cargo will bring great relief to our business community, particularly those transporting goods requiring special handling, such as meat and fresh produce. It will reduce both the cost and time of transportation—factors that are critical in international trade,” he said.
Mr Chilongani underscored the importance of collaborative engagement between aviation stakeholders, pledging that TAA will continue providing a conducive and supportive environment to foster competitive and efficient air cargo operations in the country.
“This service is not only a business enabler, but also a source of revenue for the Airports Authority through various airport service fees. We remain committed to working closely with all cargo operators to ensure high service standards and sectoral growth,” he added.
The arrival of Xerin Air Cargo’s freight operations at JNIA reflects broader efforts to position Tanzania as a regional logistics hub while supporting exporters to compete effectively in global markets.
