Simba seal deal for South Africa defender

The 29-year-old defender penned a one-year contract with the club, which includes an option for a further year based on performance

Dar es Salaam.  Tanzanian football powerhouse Simba SC have finalized the signing of experienced South African centre-back Rushine De Reuck from Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 29-year-old defender penned a one-year contract with the club, which includes an option for a further year based on performance.

His arrival comes as Simba look to solidify their backline ahead of a busy season in the Mainland Premier League, CAF Confederation Cup, and domestic cup competitions.

“This is a player who brings more than just ability he brings winning mentality and leadership at the back,” a reliable source within the club told The Bizlens.

“The coach knows him very well, so it was an easy decision for both parties.”

De Reuck reunites with head coach Fadlu Davids, under whom he previously played at Maritzburg United in South Africa.

Their solid professional relationship and mutual respect are believed to have been crucial factors in sealing the deal.

During his successful spell with Mamelodi Sundowns, Rushine amassed an impressive eight trophies including five Premier Soccer League (PSL) titles, two Nedbank Cups, and a MTN8 title.

His consistency and composure at the heart of defence earned him recognition at both domestic and continental levels.

“Simba were clear about what they wanted experience, versatility and someone who could organize from the back. Rushine ticks all those boxes,” added the insider.

The South African international is expected to add depth and maturity to Simba’s central defence, especially after the recent departure of Che Maline.

With Simba aiming to reassert their dominance both locally and in Africa, Rushine’s arrival is a statement of intent.

The defender is not only known for his defensive awareness but also his calmness under pressure and aerial strength.

“Fadlu believes he can be the one to bring stability and confidence, especially in games against top opposition,” the source noted.

“That’s why they moved quickly to get the deal done before the league starts.”

Rushine is expected to join the squad’s preseason camp immediately as they prepare for their opening league fixtures.

Sources say Simba beat interest from clubs in North Africa and the Middle East to land the experienced centre-back, with the presence of Coach Davids playing a vital role.

“Rushine feels this is a new challenge worth embracing he’s motivated and excited to be part of Simba’s ambitions,” said the source. “He’s coming to win, not to retire.”

The club is expected to unveil him officially, alongside other new foreign signings as part of their recruitment campaign.

With the clock ticking toward the start of the new season, Rushine De Reuck’s move to Msimbazi is not only timely but potentially transformative for the club’s defensive structure.
