Tanzanian govt impressed by vehicle assembly investment plant in Bagamoyo

Speaking during a tour of the facility on July 24, Coast Regional Commissioner Abubakar Kunenge commended the company for engaging young Tanzanians in the vehicle assembly process, saying it was a commendable move that complements government efforts to empower the youth

Bagamoyo. Coast Regional Commissioner Abubakar Kunenge has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing work at Rostar Vehicle Equipment Ltd, a vehicle assembly plant located in Bagamoyo District, citing the company’s significant contribution to local employment and skills development for Tanzanian youth.

Speaking during a tour of the facility on July 24, Mr Kunenge commended the company for engaging young Tanzanians in the vehicle assembly process, saying it was a commendable move that complements government efforts to empower the youth.

“Young people have what it takes. They are innovative, hardworking and full of potential,” Mr Kunenge remarked after inspecting the plant.

“This kind of investment is not only a boost to our industrial ambitions but also a catalyst for employment and technical skills development.”

The plant, which assembles FAW brand vehicles, is among the largest of its kind in Africa, according to the company’s Director, Mr Bai Xinguo.

He revealed that the facility is designed to assemble up to 500,000 vehicles annually.

“So far, we have already received an order for 1,000 vehicles from various clients,” Mr Bai said.

“In addition to assembling vehicles, the factory will also manufacture trailers, tanks, and cranes.”

However, Mr Bai raised concerns about the state of the access road to the facility, requesting government support to improve infrastructure leading to the plant.

In response, RC Kunenge pledged to take the matter up with the relevant authorities to ensure the road is upgraded to support industrial operations and logistics.

In a related development, Mr Kunenge directed the Bagamoyo District Executive Director to expedite urban planning efforts and ensure that landowners adhere to approved town planning layouts.

He stressed the importance of orderly urban development to accommodate future growth spurred by such major investments.

The Rostar plant represents a growing trend of industrial investments in Tanzania’s coastal region, aligning with the government’s industrialisation agenda and youth employment drive.
