Tanzania Forest Services continues training for forest officers

During the training, the officers were introduced to various forestry practices, including beekeeping, seedling propagation, tree planting, pruning, plantation maintenance, and thinning operations to improve timber quality

Iringa. The Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) has continued to conduct training visits for forest officers aimed at enhancing their skills and knowledge in managing forest plantations and improving productivity.

On August 20, 2025, fifteen officers from Buhigwe–Makere Plantation visited Sao Hill Plantation in Mufindi District, Iringa Region, to observe day-to-day operations and gain practical experience. The visit was led by Chief Conservator Deogratius Kavishe.

“We came here to learn how different activities are carried out so that when we return to our plantation, we can apply new knowledge in its development,” said Mr Kavishe.

During the training, the officers were introduced to various forestry practices, including beekeeping, seedling propagation, tree planting, pruning, plantation maintenance, and thinning operations to improve timber quality.

The group also toured a honey processing factory, a sales outlet for forest products, a tree nursery, and tapping sites for resin extraction.

The programme concluded with a visit to a tourism attraction within the plantation, where officers viewed the scenic landscape popularly known as the “Sea of Trees.”

The participants expressed their appreciation to TFS Conservation Commissioner Prof Dos Santos Silayo for facilitating the exchange visit, noting that the knowledge gained would help improve plantation management and forest product yields.

According to TFS, such training tours play a vital role in building the capacity of its officers and strengthening their daily performance.

The agency says the initiative contributes positively to forest conservation efforts as well as the economic value derived from forest products.
