TADB receives major boost: AfDB pledges further $60m after decade of impact

The pledge follows a meeting on the sidelines of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings in Washington

Washington. The African Development Bank (AfDB), a key partner to the Tanzanian government, has committed to providing an additional $60 million to the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) in 2026.

This announcement follows a high-level meeting on the sidelines of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings in Washington.

TADB impact report handover seals partnership

The commitment was revealed after Dr Natu El-maamry Mwamba, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Paymaster General, handed over the TADB 10-year Impact Report to the AfDB Executive Director, Mr Ronald Justin Cafrine, at the Tanzanian Embassy.

Dr Mwamba is currently leading the Tanzanian delegation at the Annual Meetings.

The report highlights the substantial impact of the existing partnership. Between 2021 and 2024, the TADB received a total of Sh382 billion through the government, channeled from the AfDB.

This investment significantly boosted TADB’s capital, playing a crucial role in accelerating the growth of the agricultural sector and the national economy.

Strategic capital injection for agricultural growth

Mr Frank Nyabundege, Managing Director of TADB, confirmed the pledge, explaining that the AfDB promised the nearly $60 million to further strengthen TADB’s capital base in 2026.

This consistent and increasing support from the AfDB underscores the shared commitment to transforming Tanzania’s agriculture—a sector vital for the livelihoods of millions and the country’s economic prosperity.

The funds are earmarked to enhance TADB’s capacity to finance projects that drive productivity, modernization, and value addition across the agricultural value chain.
