Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Premier League giants Young Africans SC (Yanga) have officially appointed Pedro Soares Conçalves from Portugal as their new head coach, following the mutual termination of Romain Folz’s contract on October 18, 2025.
The announcement comes just hours after Yanga president Hersi Said confirmed that the club would unveil its new technical bench on Saturday night, October 25, bringing to an end weeks of speculation surrounding the vacant managerial role.
Yanga have finalised the appointments of three key members of the new technical team head coach Pedro Soares Conçalves, assistant coach Filipe Pedro, and goalkeepers’ coach Fernando Perreira.
The trio are expected to be officially introduced later tonight in Dar es Salaam.
Conçalves, who is well respected across African football, joins the Tanzanian champions with an impressive record.
He guided Angola to the quarter-finals of the last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and also led the team in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, hosted in 2025 across Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
He takes over from Patrick Mabedi, who had been serving as interim coach since Folz’s departure and will now return to his previous position within the club’s technical department.
Speaking after Yanga sealed qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage earlier today, club president Hersi Said expressed confidence that the new coaching team will elevate the club to even greater heights.
“We are building a technical structure that can deliver long-term success,” said Hersi.
“Yanga must continue to compete at the highest level, not only in Tanzania but across the African continent.”
Under Conçalves, Yanga are expected to continue their pursuit of regional dominance while improving their continental performances particularly in the CAF Confederation Cup, where the team reached the final two seasons ago.
The Portuguese tactician, known for his tactical discipline and player development philosophy, will now face the task of blending Yanga’s experienced core with emerging local talents, as the club seeks to maintain its dominance in domestic competitions and revive its ambitions on the African stage.
Conçalves and his team are set to begin training with the squad early next week ahead of their next Premier League fixture, marking the start of what the club hopes will be a new era of success under his guidance.
