Dar es Salaam. Simba SC have been dealt a double blow ahead of their CAF Champions League group-stage opener, as first-choice goalkeeper Moussa Camara undergoes knee surgery today (Tuesday) in Morocco, while central defender Abdulrazak Hamza has also been lined up to travel for treatment on a similar problem.
Camara, now in his second season with the club, departed Tanzania on Sunday after finally agreeing to proceed with the procedure, having initially resisted the recommendation.
The Malian shot-stopper is expected to be sidelined for between eight and ten weeks, ruling him out of a crucial phase of the season.
While Simba had hoped to stabilise their defensive unit ahead of Sunday’s clash with Petro Atlético at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, fresh information indicates that Hamza, who has been absent for an extended period due to injury concerns, has been cleared to follow Camara to Morocco.
The centre-back is set to undergo further medical assessments for a persistent knee issue.
Speaking on the team’s preparations, Simba’s Media Officer, Ahmed Ally, confirmed that both Camara and Hamza are the only players unavailable for the Champions League fixture based on head coach Dimitar Pantev’s latest medical report.
“Hamza is still undergoing treatment and will travel to Morocco this week for further evaluation,” Ahmed said, also offering an update on Mohammed Bajaber, who has been out since pre-season due to injury.
The Kenyan international made his return during Simba’s recent 6–0 friendly win over JKT Tanzania, gaining vital minutes as part of his recovery process.
“He has returned, and the manager gave him playing time, so he is back,” Ahmed told fans gathered at the bustling Sterio market in Temeke, where the club was unveiling match-entry details and rallying supporters to fill the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Sunday.
Ahmed further announced that the club’s official fan-mobilisation drive will kick off on Wednesday, with Simba organising a vibrant road show across various Dar es Salaam neighbourhoods.
“The mobilisation launch will be tomorrow, Wednesday, and for the first time it will be held in Chanika–Zingiziwa. Our caravan will start from Buguruni, then proceed through Ukonga, Pugu, and finally Chanika, where we intend to create a real spectacle,” said Ahmed.
He concluded by inviting all Simba supporters to participate in the mobilisation festivities.
“I take this opportunity to welcome all Wanasimba. Let’s meet in Zingiziwa for the launch.”
In addition, Ahmed confirmed that Simba’s new international kit will be officially unveiled on Friday, urging supporters to prepare for what he described as an exciting release.
