Air Tanzania set to open new gateway to Southern Africa

Dar es Salaam. Air Tanzania is set to expand its regional footprint with the launch of scheduled flights between Dar es Salaam and Cape Town, beginning December 11.

The new service, introduced at the height of Cape Town’s busy summer season, reflects the continued modernization and growth of African carriers as they work to meet rising travel demand across the continent.

Operating twice a week, the route will follow a triangular pattern: flights will depart Dar es Salaam, make a stop in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, and then continue to Cape Town.

The return journey, however, will be a direct flight from Cape Town back to Dar es Salaam.

Air Tanzania will deploy the Airbus A220-300 for this service, known for its efficiency, comfort and suitability for regional operations.

The new route strengthens connectivity between East and Southern Africa, creating a direct travel bridge between two major urban and tourism hubs.

From Cape Town, travellers will now have easier access to Tanzania’s key destinations—including Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam itself—while Dar es Salaam becomes a vital transit point for connections to cities such as Lagos and Guangzhou in China.

Air Tanzania says the decision to launch the service represents a strategic milestone in its regional expansion plan.

The route is expected to boost tourism, support business travel and deepen trade ties between the regions.

“Business travellers, tourists, investors and regional industries stand to benefit from the enhanced link,” the airline noted, emphasizing that the new flights are part of a broader mission to solidify Air Tanzania’s presence across Africa.

With flights starting later this month, the Dar es Salaam–Cape Town service signals the airline’s commitment to building a more connected Africa—one new route at a time.
