Dar es Salaam. Clatous Chama’s story with Simba SC has taken another dramatic turn.
The Zambia international midfielder, has completed a return to the Tanzanian giants after agreeing a one-year deal from Singida Black Stars, marking his third spell at the club.
The move, brings Chama back to familiar territory at a time when Simba are reshaping their midfield ahead of key domestic and continental challenges.
Chama first joined Simba in 2018 from Zambia’s Lusaka Dynamos and quickly established himself as one of the most influential midfielders in the club’s recent history.
He left in August 2021 after being sold to Moroccan side RS Berkane, but his stay in North Africa was short-lived, prompting a return to Simba in January 2022.
After his contract with Simba expired in July 2024, Chama made a surprise move to rivals Yanga, where he spent the 2024–2025 season, before joining Singida Black Stars in September 2025.
Just a few months later, in January 2026, he finds himself back at Simba once again.
Simba’s decision to bring back the experienced playmaker follows the departure of Jean Charles Ahoua, who was sold during the current transfer window to Algerian club CR Belouizdad.
Ahoua had been signed last season as Chama’s replacement after the Zambian moved to Yanga and went on to enjoy an outstanding debut campaign, scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists in the Mainland Premier League, while helping Simba reach the final of the 2024–2025 CAF Confederation Cup.
A reliable source at Singida Black Stars confirmed that the two clubs had reached an agreement despite Chama still having six months left on his contract.
What Chama brings back to Simba
Chama’s return comes with two clear advantages for Simba.
First, his creativity and ability to provide assists remain among his strongest qualities.
During his previous spells at the club, he registered 60 assists across 183 appearances in league and continental competitions.
His influence was also evident at Singida Black Stars, particularly in their CAF Confederation Cup qualification campaign.
Chama was directly involved in three of the seven goals scored during victories over Rwanda’s Rayon Sports (3–1 on aggregate) and Burundi’s Flambeau du Centre (4–2 on aggregate), scoring twice and providing one assist.
Secondly, Chama offers a consistent goal threat from midfield.
Across his 183 matches for Simba in all competitions, he scored 42 goals.
This season alone, he has netted six goals for Singida Black Stars, including three in the Kagame Cup, where he finished as the tournament’s top scorer.
With Simba preparing for a crucial CAF Champions League fixture away to Esperance of Tunisia on 24 January 2026, Chama’s experience and familiarity with high-pressure matches could prove invaluable.
Midfield reshuffle continues
Chama’s arrival also coincides with further changes in Simba’s midfield.
Neo Maema is set to return to Mamelodi Sundowns after a six-month loan spell, having struggled to make a creative impact in his role.
Awesu Ally Awesu has been loaned out to Police FC of Kenya, while Ahoua’s sale has left Morice Abraham as the only remaining central attacking midfielder signed earlier this season.
Meanwhile, Simba have been active in the transfer market.
By Tuesday afternoon, the club had already unveiled three new signings during the mini transfer window:
Senegalese winger Libasse Gueye from Teungueth FC, left-back Nickson Kibabage from Singida Black Stars, and Ivorian centre-back Ismaël Olivier Touré, formerly of Stellenbosch FC and UAE side FC Baniyas.
