Kibaha. Directors and Assistant Directors from the Office of the Treasury Registrar (OTR) have completed a five-day strategic leadership and management training programme designed to strengthen their capacity to oversee public resources with professionalism, integrity and accountability.
The specialised programme was conducted in collaboration with the Institute of Directors in Tanzania (IoDT) and took place from February 2 to 6, 2026, at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School in Kibaha.
It was held under the theme Accountable Leadership and Management in the National Interest.
The training sought to enhance managerial competence, reinforce ethical leadership, and deepen participants’ understanding of their stewardship role in safeguarding public assets and advancing national development priorities.
It also aimed to align leadership practice within OTR with the broader objectives of good governance, transparency and sustainable public sector management.
Throughout the programme, participants engaged in intensive learning sessions and deliberations on strategic leadership, good governance, patriotism, ethics in public office, and institutional safeguards against operational, ethical and security risks.
The sessions emphasised the importance of principled leadership and sound decision-making in managing public investments and overseeing state-owned institutions and corporations.
Key modules covered the foundations of good governance, results-oriented leadership, strategic management of public investments, and effective oversight of public institutions.
Participants were also trained in strategic decision-making, leadership anchored in national interest, and the integration of national security considerations into executive responsibilities.
The programme further built capacity in leadership protocol and professional etiquette, emotional intelligence, strategic negotiation, and executive-level communication.
These components were designed to strengthen participants’ leadership presence, enhance institutional credibility, and reinforce confidence in public sector governance.
Recognising the evolving demands of modern leadership, the training also addressed the growing role of technology and digital systems in government.
Participants were introduced to digital governance tools, including e-Board systems, and received foundational exposure to Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Discussions focused on the opportunities presented by emerging technologies, the challenges associated with their adoption, and the ethical implications of their use in strategic decision-making.
In addition, sessions on leaders’ health, stress management and organisational resilience were incorporated to promote sustained effectiveness and personal wellbeing.
These components underscored the importance of balanced leadership in maintaining high performance under pressure and in complex institutional environments.
The training is expected to yield tangible institutional benefits, including enhanced cohesion and alignment among OTR leadership, improved quality of management decisions, and strengthened accountability in the oversight of public shares and assets vested in the Office of the Treasury Registrar.
By fostering a shared understanding of leadership responsibility and institutional stewardship, the programme has equipped Directors and Assistant Directors with a solid foundation to discharge their duties with discipline, foresight and professionalism.
