Young Africans SC (Yanga) delivered a commanding performance this night at Amaan Stadium but were eliminated from the CAF Champions League despite a comprehensive 3–0 victory over JS Kabylie.
In the decisive Group D fixture played today, February 15, at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar, Yanga entered the match knowing that only a win coupled with a favourable result elsewhere would keep their quarter-final hopes alive.
Backed by a lively home crowd, the Tanzanian champions started on the front foot, pressing high and dictating possession in search of an early breakthrough.
Their persistence paid off in the 36th minute Depu, confidently converted a penalty to hand Yanga a deserved lead following sustained attacking pressure.
Yanga maintained control for the remainder of the first half, limiting JS Kabylie’s attacking opportunities while moving the ball with composure and purpose.
After the interval, the hosts intensified their dominance, pushing forward with greater urgency as they sought to strengthen their advantage.
Depu struck again in the 63rd minute, finishing neatly from an Okello assist to make it 2–0 and ignite further celebrations inside Amaan Stadium.
Just three minutes later, Clatous Boka added a third goal, converting after being set up by Dube, effectively sealing an emphatic victory for Yanga.
The statistics reflected their superiority. Yanga enjoyed 54 per cent possession compared to JS Kabylie’s 46 per cent and recorded 15 shots, six of them on target.
The expected goals (xG) tally stood at 2.67 for Yanga against just 0.40 for the Algerian side, underlining the home team’s attacking efficiency.
Yanga also created four clear-cut chances and won seven corners, maintaining relentless pressure throughout the encounter.
However, events elsewhere ultimately determined their fate. In the other Group D fixture, Al Ahly SC were held to a goalless draw by AS FAR.
That result saw both Al Ahly and AS FAR finish on 10 points and progress to the quarter-finals, while Yanga concluded the group stage third with eight points.
Although their continental journey ends here, Yanga’s dominant display at Amaan Stadium this evening demonstrated their growing competitiveness on the African stage.
