Tanzania’s Stamico, Plantcor sign strategic gold mining partnership in Kigosi

The agreement focuses on research and extraction activities, fostering collaboration that is expected to create employment opportunities for local communities, stimulate economic growth in the region, and contribute to national revenue

Bukombe. Tanzania’s National Mining Corporation (Stamico) and South Africa’s Plantcor Mining and Plant Hire (Pty) Ltd have signed a strategic partnership agreement aimed at advancing gold exploration and mining in the Kigosi area of Bukombe District, Geita Region.

The agreement focuses on research and extraction activities, fostering collaboration that is expected to create employment opportunities for local communities, stimulate economic growth in the region, and contribute to national revenue.

Stamico’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Venance Mwasse, said the partnership is intended to strengthen strategic cooperation in gold exploration and mining.

He added that Plantcor will provide comprehensive geological reports on the Kigosi project area once initial studies are completed, enabling other licensed miners in the region to benefit from the findings.

The Deputy Minister for Minerals, Dr Steven Kiruswa, who attended the ceremony, urged investors to fully implement their commitments, including technology transfer and corporate social responsibility programmes.

He emphasised that local communities should be engaged throughout the mining value chain, in line with Tanzania’s Local Content Policy.

Stamico Board Chairman, Ambassador Simon Sirro, described the agreement as a milestone for Tanzania’s investment environment, noting that the partnership will comply fully with national laws while safeguarding the interests of local residents.

The project is part of ongoing efforts to capitalise on Geita Region’s rich mineral resources. Authorities say responsible exploitation of these resources is key to sustainable development and the promotion of local economic opportunities.

By providing access to detailed geological data and creating avenues for community participation, the partnership is expected to set a model for effective collaboration between government-owned mining entities and private investors.
