Lusaka. Tanzania’s Minister for Energy, Deogratius Ndejembi, has held bilateral talks with Zambia’s Minister for Energy, Makozo Chikote, aimed at strengthening cooperation in the energy sector.
The meeting took place on March 27, 2026 in Lusaka, bringing together senior officials and technical experts from both countries.
During the discussions, the two ministers reviewed a range of matters intended to deepen collaboration in the energy sector.
Particular emphasis was placed on the oil and gas sub-sector.
Officials explored opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, improve supply systems, and promote long-term investment in shared energy infrastructure.
The meeting was attended by Tanzania’s Permanent Secretary responsible for Petroleum and Gas in the Ministry of Energy, James Mataragio.
Also present was Tanzania’s Ambassador to Zambia, Mathew Edward Mkingule, alongside technical experts drawn from the Ministry of Energy and its affiliated institutions.
Tanzania and Zambia maintain a longstanding partnership in the energy sector.
This cooperation has been anchored by the joint management and utilisation of the TAZAMA Oil Pipeline, a critical facility that supports the transportation of petroleum products between the two nations.
The pipeline links the Port of Dar es Salaam to Zambia.
It serves as a key logistical corridor for the movement of petroleum products destined for the Zambian market.
The infrastructure remains central to regional energy supply chains and cross-border trade.
Officials noted that continued cooperation between Tanzania and Zambia has contributed to strengthening energy security in both countries.
The partnership has also supported industrial growth and facilitated economic development through improved fuel availability.
The two sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing bilateral ties in the energy sector.
They also underscored the importance of sustained dialogue and coordinated planning to ensure reliable energy supply and efficient resource management across the region.
