Dodoma. The ministry of Energy is set to become a benchmark for sustainable power through a new partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
This collaboration aims to implement an Energy Efficiency Project at the ministry’s headquarters before expanding across the entirety of Mtumba Government City.
The Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mr Innocent Luoga, confirmed these plans during a meeting with UNDP Project Manager, Aaron Cunningham on April 1, 2026.
The initial phase focuses on the ministry of Energy building in Dodoma.
Technical teams will install small-scale solar and wind power generation systems to ensure a steady supply of clean electricity.

Furthermore, the infrastructure will be upgraded with high-efficiency electrical systems to minimise overall consumption.
This transition represents a strategic move towards energy security and environmental responsibility within the public sector.
Electric vehicle integration forms a core component of the new development.
The project includes the installation of dedicated charging stations within the building’s grounds and parking areas.
By adopting these technologies, the ministry intends to lead by example.
Mr Luoga noted that as the authority responsible for the energy sector, the ministry must set a standard for both government and private institutions to follow.
Expanding the project to the wider Mtumba Government City remains the ultimate objective.
Widespread implementation is expected to drastically reduce operational costs associated with electricity across all government buildings.

Reliable power access is a primary goal of this initiative.
The project aligns with broader national efforts to modernise infrastructure and promote sustainable energy habits throughout the country.
Mr Cunningham expressed the organisation’s commitment to the venture.
He highlighted a strong history of collaboration between the UNDP and the Ministry on impactful national projects.
One notable precedent is the ten-year Energy Efficiency Strategy launched in December 2024.
This latest effort continues that momentum. The partnership remains focused on delivering tangible benefits for the Tanzanian community and the nation at large.
