Dar es Salaam. The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura) has announced new pump prices for petroleum products, effective March 5, 2025, with significant increases recorded across the country.

In a statement published on its website Ewura said for Dar es Salaam, petrol now costs Sh2,996 per litre, marking a rise from Sh2,820 in February.

Diesel has increased to Sh2,885 from Sh2,703, while kerosene now stands at Sh3,036 per litre, up from Sh2,710.

Similar price hikes have been recorded in other regions.

In Tanga, petrol is now priced at Sh3,042 per litre, compared to Sh2,825 last month, while diesel has risen to Sh2,932 from Sh2,746.

In Mtwara, petrol now costs Sh3,069 per litre, up from Sh2,892, with diesel increasing to Sh2,958 from Sh2,775.

The increases are more pronounced in upcountry regions, with Kagera recording some of the highest prices.

Meanwhile, in Mara, Musoma’s petrol price has jumped to Sh3,162 per litre, with diesel reaching Sh3,051.

These price changes are attributed to fluctuations in global fuel costs and exchange rates.

“The general public can access cap prices through mobile phones by dialling *152*00# and follow the instructions provided. This service is free of charge and is available to all mobile phone service providers in the country,” Ewura said in the statement.

Ewura further said that Oil Marketing Companies are free to sell their products at a price that gives them a competitive advantage.

In doing so, Ewura further noted, they should ensure that their competitive prices do not exceed the price cap and is not below the floor price for the relevant product as it is computed according to the Ewura’s Petroleum Products Price Setting.
