Dar es Salaam. Frequent fliers have reason to smile as Air France resumed its flights to Kilimanjaro on Monday, November 18, after a 28-year hiatus.
The new route, connecting Paris-Charles de Gaulle with Kilimanjaro via Zanzibar, marks a significant milestone for travelers, offering smoother and more convenient connections between Europe and East Africa.
The announcement has been welcomed by the government, business communities, and diplomats alike—essentially, the move has been met with enthusiasm from nearly every corner.
According to Air France’s website, the newly launched route will operate three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays—using the state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
“Unveiling an additional destination in East Africa underscores our commitment to diversifying our long-haul network,” stated Air France in a statement seen by The BizLens.
The new Paris-Zanzibar-Kilimanjaro route will replace the previous Paris-Zanzibar-Dar es Salaam service operated by Air France.
However, Dar es Salaam remains well-served by KLM, which continues to offer flights from Amsterdam to the Tanzanian capital seven times a week, including connections from Kilimanjaro (five times a week) and Zanzibar (twice a week).
Through close coordination between Air France and KLM, passengers will enjoy greater flexibility, with a broader range of flight days and schedules to choose from.
