Dar es Salaam. The Investment and Finance Committee of the Watumishi Housing Investment (WHI) Board has visited and inspected ongoing construction works at the 101 Housing Project located in Mikocheni, Dar es Salaam.
The project, which aims to provide affordable housing to public servants, is expected to cost Sh18 billion upon completion.
During the inspection tour conducted on April 17, 2025, members of the board expressed satisfaction with the pace of implementation and the quality of construction, saying the project is a model example of how to implement the government’s policy on decent housing for public employees.
Speaking after the inspection, the chairperson of WHI’s Investment Committee, Mr Celestine Muganga, said all the 101 housing units under construction have already been paid for.
“We are fully aware of the ever-growing demand for housing. This entire plot has been sold out. What we have witnessed here is a productive execution that aligns with the goals of the sixth-phase government—to ensure that public servants and citizens have access to safe and decent housing,” he said.
On his part, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of WHI, Mr Sephania Solomon, said the project is expected to be completed by March 26, 2026, and is specifically designed to address housing challenges facing low- and middle-income public servants.
“These houses have been designed to meet quality standards, ensure a friendly environment, and remain affordable. We have continued to collaborate with various financial institutions to make it easier for buyers to access soft loans, which will help them acquire homes with greater ease,” said Mr Solomon.
The project’s manager, Eng Yusuph Mlimakifu, said the construction—comprising one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom houses—has so far reached 20 percent completion.
He noted that no major challenges had been encountered so far, and the work is progressing well to meet the set timeline.
Watumishi Housing Investment continues to roll out similar projects across different parts of the country as part of the government’s broader commitment to ensuring that every Tanzanian enjoys the basic right to decent housing.
