Bank of Tanzania to launch sovereign yield curve

The Tanzania Sovereign Yield Curve is expected to play a key role in modernising the domestic government securities market by providing a reliable benchmark for pricing government debt instruments and related financial products

Dar es Salaam. The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has announced the official launch of the Tanzania Sovereign Yield Curve, describing it as a major step towards strengthening the country’s domestic government securities market and improving transparency in the pricing of financial instruments.

The launch, which will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Bank of Tanzania headquarters in Dar es Salaam, is being undertaken on behalf of the government.

The event is scheduled to run from 11:00 am. to 1:00 pm.

According to a public notice issued by the central bank on August 5, 2026, the Tanzania Sovereign Yield Curve is expected to play a key role in modernising the domestic government securities market by providing a reliable benchmark for pricing government debt instruments and related financial products.

The bank said the initiative would enhance market transparency, improve price discovery and support the development of the secondary market for government securities.

It is also expected to strengthen investor confidence by providing a standard reference for valuing fixed-income instruments.

A sovereign yield curve plots the interest rates on government securities across different maturities, enabling investors, financial institutions and policymakers to assess borrowing costs, market expectations and investment opportunities more effectively.

The introduction of the benchmark is expected to improve efficiency in Tanzania’s capital markets by facilitating more accurate pricing of government securities while supporting broader financial market development.

BoT has invited key stakeholders, including financial educators and retail investors, to participate in the launch.

Interested participants may attend the event in person, subject to acceptance after completing the required registration process, or follow the proceedings virtually through the Bank’s official social media platforms.

The launch comes as Tanzania continues implementing reforms aimed at deepening domestic financial markets, expanding investor participation and improving access to long-term financing for both the public and private sectors.

A well-functioning sovereign yield curve is widely regarded as a critical component of an efficient debt market, providing a benchmark for pricing corporate bonds and other financial instruments while supporting informed investment decisions.
