Dar es Salaam. The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr Patrice Motsepe, visited Tanzania on Thursday, December 19, to show support for the country’s preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Motsepe expressed his strong belief in Tanzania’s ability to host the tournament at a world-class level, despite the challenges that may arise.

“I have great confidence that Tanzania will successfully host this tournament at a world-class level,” he emphasized.

Adding:  “While there may be some challenges, I know that the work will be completed efficiently before the end of this month.”

Scheduled to take place from February 1 to 28, 2025, CHAN 2024 will be historic as it marks the first time the tournament will be hosted by three countries: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Upon his arrival in Tanzania, Motsepe delivered a message of optimism, commending the Tanzanian government for its efforts in ensuring the progress of preparations.

He specifically thanked President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan and other government leaders for their contributions.

Motsepe also acknowledged Tanzania’s significant role in African football history, noting the country’s vital support for South Africa during the apartheid struggle under the leadership of Julius Nyerere.

He emphasized that CHAN 2024 is not only an opportunity to showcase football talent but also a platform to boost the economy, increase investment, and promote tourism.

Motsepe expressed his excitement about the tournament’s potential to unite East Africa and raise the profile of African football globally.

As the host cities, including Tanzania, continue to finalize their preparations, Motsepe’s confidence remains high that the tournament will be a success, with world-class standards set across all aspects of the event.
