New Cities Summit to transform urban development

Mbeya.  The excitement is building as the Charter Cities Institute (CCI) announces that the New Cities Summit will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, on June 12-13, 2025.

This premier event is set to unite major stakeholders from around the globe to explore the future of urban development and the transformative potential of new cities, according to a press release seen by The BizLens earlier this week.

The summit aims to bring together prominent leaders involved in the design, financing, construction, governance, and operation of new city developments across Africa and beyond.

It will serve as a dynamic platform for exchanging ideas and fostering dialogue, positioning itself as an essential gathering for those committed to reimagining urban living.

With over 500 leaders expected to attend—including entrepreneurs, urban planners, academics, builders, and visionaries—the summit will focus on key discussions around creating jobs, attracting investment, driving innovation, and fostering economic growth.

Participants will gain firsthand insights into transformative projects that align with the theme: “Transforming Ideas into Action, Across Africa & Beyond.”

Strategic panels and workshops will delve into crucial topics such as Planning for Rapid Urban Expansion, Risk Management and Mitigation Strategies for New City Projects, and Building a Creative Community to Grow Cities.

The event will also feature pitch competitions and dedicated “deal rooms” to facilitate business opportunities and high-level networking.

Michael Holstein, Head of Communications for CCI, emphasized the summit’s role in fostering collaboration.

“Whether you’re looking to invest, partner, pitch, or understand how new cities are reshaping economic and social landscapes globally, the Summit offers an unparalleled opportunity for networking, learning, and collaboration.”

SCC President Corey Gray expressed enthusiasm for the partnership between SCC and CCI, which aims to enhance the impact of urban development initiatives across the continent.

The New Cities Summit follows the successful inaugural Africa’s New Cities Summit hosted in Kigali, Rwanda, in 2023, which brought together over 250 delegates from more than 50 countries.

With momentum building, the upcoming summit in Nairobi promises to be a pivotal event for shaping the future of cities in Africa and beyond.
