Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (Tanesco) has officially launched an international tender process for the construction of a 100-megawatt peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic (PV) plant under Phase II of its renewable energy expansion programme.
The project, situated in the Shinyanga Region, forms part of Tanzania’s broader commitment to green energy and sustainable infrastructure.
The solar project is part of the national drive to diversify the energy mix, reduce dependency on fossil fuels, and increase access to affordable electricity for all Tanzanians.
A public notice issued on April 3, 2025 says the government has secured funding from Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to support the design, construction and installation of the solar plant.
Tanesco, the designated project executing agency, will oversee the procurement of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors.
The tendering process, the statement says, will be conducted through international competitive bidding in accordance with the Public Procurement Regulations of 2024.
Interested bidders are required to submit their applications by June 2, 2025, with an original tender security of $200,000.
A pre-tender meeting will be held on April 16, 2025 at Tanesco’s Shinyanga Regional Office, followed by a site visit on April 17.
Tanesco encourages bidders to familiarise themselves with the local terrain and project conditions.
Tanesco, established in 1964, is a state-owned utility responsible for electricity generation, transmission, and distribution across mainland Tanzania.
It also supplies bulk power to the Zanzibar Electricity Corporation (Zeco).
Tender documents are available upon payment of a non-refundable fee of $200, with procurement details accessible through Tanesco’s official communication channels.
The process aims to attract capable international contractors committed to delivering renewable energy solutions in line with global standards and Tanzania’s development goals.
