Dar es Salaam. A stoppage time goal at the end of the first half from midfielder Fabrice Ngoma was enough to hand Simba SC a vital 1-0 victory over JKT Tanzania, narrowing the gap with league leaders Yanga SC to just seven points in the NBC Premier League title race.
The match, played Monday, May 5, 2025, at the Meja General Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam, marked Simba’s 24th game of the season.
With the win, the Msimbazi giants moved up to 63 points, trailing Yanga’s 70, who have played 26 matches.
With only three rounds of fixtures remaining, the title race is heating up dramatically.
Ngoma netted the winner in the 45+6th minute, expertly connecting with a delicious cross from Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala.
The move began with a brilliant through pass from Zambian midfielder Joshua Mutale, who showed uncharacteristic creativity something he had lacked since joining Simba from Power Dynamos.
It was Ngoma’s fourth goal of the season and Mukwala’s fourth assist, continuing a trend of dominance over JKT Tanzania; Simba had also defeated them 1-0 in the first-round encounter.
Today’s match was Simba’s second rescheduled fixture, following their 2-1 win over Mashujaa FC last Friday.
Despite JKT displaying tactical discipline early on, their composure appeared to waver after several fouls by Simba players were seemingly ignored by referee Japhet Smart.
Nonetheless, the referee handled the game fairly throughout the 90 minutes.
The result leaves JKT Tanzania in seventh place on the league table with 32 points from 27 matches.
It was their second defeat at the Isamuhyo Stadium this season, the first coming at the hands of Singida BS, who ended their nine-game unbeaten home streak with a narrow 1-0 win.
