Luleå, Sweden. Tanzania has continued to distinguish itself on the global stage, drawing wide acclaim at an ongoing professional symposium on mine wastewater audit training, currently taking place at Luleå University of Technology in Sweden.
The technical meeting, which brings together experts from seven countries—namely Tanzania, Kenya, Liberia, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Zambia, and the host nation Sweden—aims to evaluate progress and challenges in the implementation of environmentally friendly and sustainable mine wastewater auditing practices.
The Tanzanian delegation is led by the Commissioner for Minerals, Dr AbdulRahman Mwanga, and comprises 11 experts from the Ministry of Minerals, the Mining Commission, and the National Environment Management Council (NEMC).
On 19 May 2025, Tanzania delivered a dedicated presentation highlighting the country’s substantial investment opportunities in mineral value addition, strategic mineral exploration, and capacity-building initiatives for local experts aimed at fostering an environmentally conscious mining economy.
Participants expressed strong interest in Tanzania’s efforts to manage its natural resources with transparency, accountability, and a commitment to inclusive development.
Since 2018, a total of 54 Tanzanian professionals have benefited from this capacity-building initiative, which is funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) in partnership with the Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU), Luleå University of Technology, and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA).
The conference is scheduled to officially close on 28 May 2025, with participants expected to visit major mining sites in Sweden to gain practical insights into modern, sustainable mining operations.
Tanzania’s presence and active participation underscore the country’s growing reputation as a credible partner in international dialogue on mineral resource governance, while enhancing its attractiveness to investors who value responsible environmental stewardship and genuine economic progress.
