Zanzibar invites Chinese investors in health sector

Zanzibar. The President of Zanzibar, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has invited Chinese investors, urging them to explore opportunities in the islands, particularly in the health sector and traditional medicine research.

President Mwinyi made these remarks during discussions with a team of experts from China’s Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, who visited the State House for a meeting.

The President emphasised Zanzibar’s enduring appreciation for China’s significant contributions and assistance across various development and social sectors.

He noted that this long-standing support has been a cornerstone of the relationship between the two nations, persisting since before and after the Revolution, and continuing to the present day.

Deepening healthcare collaboration

Dr Mwinyi also expressed his satisfaction with the aid provided to the health sector, highlighting the recurring visits of specialist doctors from China.

These medical teams offer treatments to the community, supply medicines and services to hospitals and health centres, and provide training for local health sector professionals.

Implementing China’s Africa policy

Deputy Director of China’s Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine and head of the visiting delegation, Professor Song Li Jwan, said that their visit to Zanzibar aims to strengthen cooperation between China and Zanzibar.

This collaboration focuses specifically on advancing the health sector and fostering research into traditional medicine between the two sides.

Professor Song further clarified that this initiative is a direct implementation of China’s national policy towards African countries, aligning with the objectives set during the 2024 Beijing Summit, which prioritised the strengthening of the health sector.
