Dar es Salaam. The Treasury Publications Repository of the ministry of Finance (MoF-Repository) is a vital tool for enhancing public access to historical and contemporary economic and fiscal information since Tanzania’s independence.
Key publications accessible through the repository include national budgets, economic performance reviews, public debt reports, and finance-related legislation issued since independence.
Such materials are instrumental in improving both institutional performance and public literacy on economic matters.
They not only guide better planning based on facts and context, but they also reflect the remarkable strides the Government has made in strengthening the economy,” Mr Mpoma noted.
Speaking during an education session at the ministry of Finance pavilion at the ongoing 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), also known as Sabasaba, Senior Librarian in the Library Unit of the ministry, Mr Fredy Mpoma, said the digital platform provides centralised access to a wide range of official publications critical to understanding the country’s economic trajectory.
“The MoF Repository is essential in preserving and availing documents from as far back as independence. It enhances understanding of where our economy has come from and its future direction through the progression of various official reports,” Mr Mpoma stated.
He lamented that the younger generation often lacks comprehensive awareness of Tanzania’s historical economic landscape.
However, he expressed optimism that with access to the MoF Repository, young people could now engage more meaningfully in discourse on national development and compare Tanzania’s progress with that of other African nations.
Mr Mpoma further highlighted that prior to the introduction of the repository, academic and research institutions faced significant hurdles in accessing accurate and timely economic data.
“The platform has now simplified access, making it easier for such institutions to conduct research and fulfil their academic mandates effectively,” he said.
He urged members of the public to visit the Ministry of Finance pavilion at Sabasaba to learn more about the platform and how to navigate it.
He added that the repository is accessible through various electronic devices, including smartphones, enabling broader reach and convenience.
The Treasury Publications Repository is among the Ministry’s flagship digital initiatives aimed at fostering transparency, accountability, and public participation in economic governance.
