Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Tanzania has commended the Government of Norway for its sustained support to the country’s development efforts in key sectors including energy, education, agriculture, and public financial management.
Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Minister Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo made the remarks on the sidelines of the 22nd Africa–Nordic Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, from October 2 to 3, 2025.
Ambassador Kombo said Norway has remained a model development partner through its long-standing commitment to supporting Tanzania’s implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda via various strategic programmes.
He said since 2010, Norway has contributed over 1.1 billion Norwegian kroner, equivalent to about Sh300 billion, to support critical sectors such as rural electrification, education, oil and gas, climate change mitigation, and forest management.
The assistance, he noted, has significantly improved social services and spurred economic growth in the country.
“The Government of Tanzania recognises and appreciates Norway’s substantial contribution to our national development agenda, particularly through support for the Rural Energy Agency (REA), empowerment of women engineers, and the investment of Equinor in the natural gas sector,” Ambassador Kombo said.
For his part, Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Espen Barth Eide, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Tanzania, particularly in the advancement of clean energy technologies, quality education, and green economic investments.
He said Norway values long-term partnerships built on transparency, equality, and sustainable development, noting that the Nordic country will continue to collaborate with Tanzania in promoting inclusive growth and environmental stewardship.
Ambassador Kombo concluded by reiterating Tanzania’s commitment to preserving the historical ties with Norway, assuring that the government will continue to create a conducive environment for investment and development cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
