Dodoma. The construction of the Msalato International Airport project, a key infrastructure undertaking aimed at enhancing Tanzania’s aviation capacity, has reached 95.95 percent completion for infrastructure works and 63 percent for building structures, according to the Tanzania Roads Agency (TANROADS) in Dodoma.
The progress was revealed on October 10, 2025 by TANROADS Dodoma Regional Manager, Engineer Zuhura Amani, during an inspection tour of the project site.
She said implementation is proceeding smoothly, with the infrastructure phase nearing completion and the construction of key buildings advancing steadily.
“The project is progressing well. Infrastructure works have reached 95.95 percent, while construction of the buildings stands at 63 percent,” Engineer Zuhura said.
She explained that the building component includes a passenger terminal with the capacity to handle 1.5 million passengers annually, an air traffic control tower, and emergency service facilities such as fire and weather stations.
The infrastructure component, she noted, covers access roads, runways, taxiways, aircraft parking aprons, water supply and drainage systems, perimeter fencing, and airfield lighting systems.
Engineer Zuhura further said that the overall project, comprising both infrastructure and building works, is being implemented at a total cost of Sh360 billion.
Upon completion, Msalato International Airport will meet international standards, capable of handling large aircraft carrying more than 300 passengers, and will feature a car park accommodating up to 500 vehicles at a time.
She also highlighted the project’s economic impact, noting that it has already created employment opportunities for more than 2,000 local residents, contributing to socio-economic growth in the Dodoma Region.
