Dodoma. The performance of the Ministry of Energy and its institutions has continued to improve, reaching 96.16 percent in the fourth quarter of the 2024/25 financial year, up from 95 percent recorded in the previous quarter, according to the latest evaluation report by the ministry’s Monitoring and Evaluation Unit.
The assessment was presented during the fifth performance review meeting of the Ministry and its institutions, chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, in Dodoma.
He said the steady rise in performance demonstrates the ministry’s ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery and efficiency across the energy sector.
“These results reflect our collective efforts in ensuring that services continue to improve and reach citizens effectively. As a ministry, we remain committed to providing quality and reliable energy services nationwide,” said Engineer Mramba.
He commended the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) for its improved communication with the public, which has contributed to enhanced service provision.
He further urged the ministry and its agencies to make greater use of social media to promote awareness of clean cooking energy technologies, including energy-efficient electric stoves.
“Social media platforms have tremendous potential to reach large audiences quickly. They should be used effectively to support the national drive towards adopting clean cooking energy, in line with the President’s vision of transitioning citizens away from unclean sources,” he added.
Engineer Mramba also lauded the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit for executing its mandate effectively and emphasised the need for continued collaboration with all departments and agencies to ensure timely submission of performance reports.
Deputy Permanent Secretary Dr James Mataragio also congratulated the ministry’s departments, units, and institutions for achieving strong results that demonstrate improved efficiency and positive outcomes in project implementation and service delivery.
Presenting the evaluation report, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Ms Anita Ishengoma, said the introduction of regular performance reviews has significantly improved the implementation of projects and institutional plans.
According to the report, the top-performing departments in the fourth quarter were the Electricity and Renewable Energy Division (first), the Procurement Unit (second), and the ICT Unit (third).
Among the agencies, Tanesco ranked first, followed by the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura) and the Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA).
Regional offices of Tanesco also performed strongly, with Manyara taking first place, followed by Kinondoni South and Simiyu. Notably, all Tanesco regions scored above 91.83 percent, indicating overall national improvement in operational performance.
The review meeting was attended by heads of energy institutions, directors from various government ministries, Tanesco regional managers, and senior management officials from the Ministry of Energy.
