Mbappé shatters Ronaldo and Benzema records

Kylian Mbappé was named MVP of the Champions League match between Real Madrid and Olympiacos on matchday five. The French striker, receiving the award for the third time in this season’s European campaign, was the standout performer after scoring all four goals in Real Madrid’s victory.

Dar es Salaam. Kylian Mbappé produced a sensational individual performance on Wednesday night (November 26), rewriting sections of Real Madrid’s Champions League history during a dramatic 4–3 victory over Olympiacos in Athens.

The French forward was simply unstoppable at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, scoring all four of Real Madrid’s goals as the Spanish giants snapped a three-match winless run in the competition.

Xabi Alonso’s side, under pressure to rediscover their rhythm in Europe, travelled to Greece knowing only a win would restore confidence — and Mbappé delivered in emphatic fashion.

A record-breaking night

Mbappé’s first three goals sealed his fifth career Champions League hat-trick, allowing him to surpass club legend Karim Benzema’s tally of four.

It was a symbolic moment, underscoring how quickly the 26-year-old is etching his name into the club’s European folklore.

But the records did not stop there.

When Mbappé added his fourth of the night — completing a rare ‘poker’ — he eclipsed Cristiano Ronaldo’s best return after five group-stage matches.

Ronaldo had previously set the benchmark with eight goals from his opening five Champions League appearances in both the 2013/14 and 2017/18 seasons.

Mbappé now stands alone, having reached nine goals in the same span this campaign.

Driving Madrid forward

Beyond the numbers, Mbappé’s explosive outing served as a timely reminder of his ability to take control of high-stakes matches.

With Real Madrid targeting another deep run in Europe, their new talisman appears ready to shoulder the responsibility that once belonged to Benzema — and, before him, Ronaldo.

For Los Blancos, the victory in Greece restores momentum. For Mbappé, it marks yet another step in what is shaping up to be a historic debut season in Madrid.
