Stanbic bank earns Tanzania’s best bank title for 2025

The accolade was awarded under The Banker’s annual Bank of the Year Awards, one of the most respected benchmarking platforms in the global financial industry

Dar es Salaam. Stanbic Bank Tanzania has been named Tanzania’s Best Bank for 2025 by The Banker, a leading global banking publication owned by the Financial Times Group, in recognition of its strong financial performance, strategic execution and contribution to national economic development.

The accolade was awarded under The Banker’s annual Bank of the Year Awards, one of the most respected benchmarking platforms in the global financial industry.

The awards assess banks based on clearly defined criteria, including balance sheet strength, profitability, innovation, leadership in priority sectors, digital transformation and the ability to deliver value in challenging operating environments.

Winners are selected following a rigorous comparative review of banking institutions across individual markets.

Stanbic’s recognition reflects its performance during a period marked by heightened regulatory scrutiny, rising competition and increasing demand for digital financial services within Tanzania’s banking sector.

According to publicly available information, the bank played a significant role in supporting Tanzania’s industrialisation and infrastructure agenda during the assessment period, providing development and commercial financing exceeding $1 billion, directed towards sectors such as energy, transport, trade, manufacturing and agribusiness.

The award also underscores Stanbic’s position as a key player in facilitating trade finance and cross-border transactions, leveraging Tanzania’s role as a regional gateway for landlocked neighbouring countries.

This has been complemented by continued investment in digital banking platforms aimed at improving customer experience, operational efficiency and financial inclusion.

Stanbic Bank Tanzania is part of the Standard Bank Group, Africa’s largest bank by assets, with operations spanning more than 20 African countries and selected international markets.

The group’s regional footprint has enabled Stanbic Tanzania to draw on international expertise, capital strength and risk management systems, while tailoring its products to local market conditions.

Industry observers note that the 2025 award marks the eighth time Stanbic Bank Tanzania has received The Banker’s top national honour, highlighting a sustained track record rather than a one-off performance.

The recognition positions the bank as a benchmark within Tanzania’s financial sector at a time when banks are expected to play an increasingly central role in supporting economic growth, private sector expansion and long-term development goals.
