Manchester City clinch Carabao Cup glory

Arsenal, making their first cup final appearance since 2020, started brightly and created several promising opportunities

Manchester City delivered a commanding and professional performance to defeat Arsenal 2–0 in the Carabao Cup final, securing yet another major trophy under the stewardship of Pep Guardiola.

The match played on March 22, 2026 remained finely balanced throughout the first half, with both sides showing discipline and tactical awareness.

Arsenal, making their first cup final appearance since 2020, started brightly and created several promising opportunities.

However, they were repeatedly denied by City’s resilient defending and an outstanding goalkeeping display from James Trafford, who produced a remarkable triple save to keep the scores level before the break.

The turning point came shortly after half-time, and it arrived in dramatic fashion.

Nico O’Reilly emerged as the unlikely hero, scoring twice within a four-minute spell that ultimately decided the contest.

The opening goal in the 60th minute stemmed from a costly mistake by Arsenal goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was preferred over David Raya for the final.

Misjudging a dangerous cross from Rayan Cherki, Kepa allowed the ball to slip through his grasp, leaving O’Reilly with the simplest of finishes at the far post.

Before Arsenal could regroup, City struck again.

This time, O’Reilly demonstrated his aerial prowess by heading home a well-delivered cross from Matheus Nunes, doubling City’s lead and effectively putting the game beyond Arsenal’s reach.

Despite the setback, Arsenal showed determination in their attempts to mount a comeback.

Substitutes Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Jesus both came agonisingly close, striking the woodwork as the Gunners searched for a way back into the match.

Nevertheless, City’s composure, experience, and game management proved decisive in the closing stages.

This victory marks another milestone for Manchester City, further cementing Guardiola’s legacy and underlining the club’s dominance in domestic competitions.
