Mudathir shine as Yanga dominate again

He currently leads Yanga’s scoring chart, moving ahead of Laurindo Aurelio ‘Depu’ and Prince Dube, who have each managed six goals so far this campaign

Yanga’s continued dominance today, April 8, 2026 in the Mainland Premier League is being powered by the outstanding rise of Mudathir Yahya, whose form under coach Pedro Goncalves has reached a new and decisive level this season.

The midfielder delivered a standout performance yesterday, scoring twice as Yanga cruised to a convincing 3–0 victory over Pamba Jiji in the Mainland Premier League, further underlining his growing importance in the squad.

With that impressive brace, Mudathir has now been directly involved in eight goals this season, having scored seven times and provided one assist for his teammates.

He currently leads Yanga’s scoring chart, moving ahead of Laurindo Aurelio ‘Depu’ and Prince Dube, who have each managed six goals so far this campaign.

His rise in form has also seen him climb steadily in the league’s scoring rankings, where he is now level with Saleh Karabaka of JKT Tanzania and Feisal Salum of Azam.

Mudathir is just one goal behind the league’s top scorer, Fabrice Ngoy of Namungo, who has found the net eight times and remains narrowly ahead.

This marks a significant shift from last season, when Mudathir contributed eight goals overall but was more influential as a creator rather than a finisher in attacking situations.

During that campaign, he scored three goals and provided five assists, highlighting his tendency to set up teammates rather than take on scoring responsibility himself.

This season, however, he has evolved into a more complete attacking midfielder, showing greater confidence in front of goal and a sharper instinct inside the penalty area.

Meanwhile, Yanga continued their dominant run in the league with a comfortable victory that further strengthened their grip at the top of the standings.

The win was their 13th of the season, taking them to 44 points from 18 matches and maintaining a strong lead over their closest challengers.

Simba, who currently sit in second place, remain in pursuit but still trail behind despite having two matches in hand to try and close the gap.

Yanga set the tone early in the match, taking control of possession and creating chances before heading into the break with a 2–0 lead through Mudathir’s goals in the 8th and 33rd minutes.

In the second half, Maxi Nzengeli added a third goal with a well-taken finish, sealing the emphatic win and underlining the team’s attacking depth.

Allan Okello was instrumental in the victory, providing all three assists and continuing his fine form since being deployed in a more advanced attacking midfield role.

Yanga have now gone 38 league matches unbeaten, a remarkable record that highlights their consistency, discipline and dominance in domestic competition.

Their last defeat dates back to 7 November 2024, when they lost 3–1 to TRA United, a result that now feels distant given their current form.

The result also ended Pamba Jiji’s unbeaten home record this season, handing them their first loss on their own ground in front of their supporters.

Despite the absence of key goalkeeper Djigui Diarra due to suspension, Yanga still managed to keep a clean sheet, showing strength and depth in their squad.

Goalkeeper Hussein Masalanga stepped in confidently and secured a clean sheet on his debut league appearance for the club, further proving that Yanga remain solid even when key players are missing.
