High-grade copper confirmed at Tanzania’s Kinusi mine

Dar es Salaam. Marula Mining PLC, an Africa-focused mining and development company, has confirmed high-grade copper mineralisation at its Kinusi Copper Mine in Tanzania.

Independent assay results from an internationally accredited laboratory have revealed an average copper grade of 21.54 percent from samples collected at the No. 4 Open Pit during the fourth quarter of 2024.

The results, with individual sample grades ranging between 20.21 percent and 22.64 percent copper, highlight the exceptional quality of the deposit.

These findings reinforce Marula Mining’s plans to finalise initial sales agreements for up to 1,000 tonnes of copper ore in trial shipments to global commodity trading groups based in Switzerland and the UK, as initially announced on 31st October 2024.

While the company had aimed to complete these sales by 31st January 2025, unforeseen delays have pushed back the timeline.

However, with the assay results now confirmed, Marula Mining is actively progressing with the agreements and will provide further updates upon their completion.

Kinusi’s processing plants

The assay results will also be instrumental in refining the design of Phase 1 and Phase 2 processing plants at Kinusi.

The Phase 1 plant, which remains on schedule for completion in the first quarter of 2025, will produce 24,000 tonnes per annum of high-grade copper concentrate.

This facility will incorporate a gravity concentrate system, coarse jigging, and a fines dewatering circuit.

The subsequent Phase 2 plant will introduce advanced hydrometallurgical processes, including heap leaching, solvent extraction, and electrowinning, to produce an initial 10,200 tonnes per annum of copper cathodes.

Strengthening Tanzania’s mining sector

Marula Mining, listed on the AQSE and A2X, has a diverse portfolio of high-value mining and development projects across Africa.

The company focuses on battery metals, including lithium, tantalum, tungsten, cobalt, manganese, and graphite, alongside copper.

The confirmation of high-grade copper at Kinusi further cements Tanzania’s growing significance as a key player in the global mineral resources sector.

Marula Mining is expected to provide further updates as it advances operations at Kinusi and moves towards finalising its initial copper sales agreements.
