84 rescued from building collapse in Kariakoo

Dar es Salaam. As of 4:00 AM on Sunday, November 17, a total of 84 people had been rescued from a building collapse in the Kariakoo area of Dar es Salaam.

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, stated today, November 17, that the rescued individuals were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

She further explained that, of the 84 survivors of the incident, which occurred on Saturday (November 16), 26 were still receiving medical attention.

Additionally, Dr Samia expressed her deep sorrow, announcing that Tanzania had lost 13 people in the incident.

“The government will bear the costs for all those who were injured and ensure that those who passed away are properly memorialized,” Dr Samia said as she spoke with Tanzanians through the television.

She added: “I extend my condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones affected by this tragic event.”

She urged all Tanzanians to unite in praying for those impacted by the incident and to pray for the peaceful rest of those who have passed away.

Dr Samia stated that the government will continue to provide updates on the rescue operations until they are completed.

She commended and thanked all security agencies involved in the rescue efforts for their ongoing work in helping those affected by this tragedy.

She also expressed gratitude to private organizations and all citizens who contributed their support during the rescue operation.

Lastly, she praised the Prime Minister, the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, and their teams for effectively managing the major rescue operation.
