Dar es Salaam. Simba SC have officially completed their backlog of league matches with a bang, sealing four straight victories to collect all 12 possible points.
The final piece of the puzzle came on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at the KMC Complex in Mwenge, Dar es Salaam, where the Reds beat KMC FC 2-1, cutting the gap between them and league leaders Yanga SC from 13 points to just one.
The fixture congestion for Simba was due to their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup, which forced the postponement of several league matches while rivals Yanga continued with a consistent run in the domestic campaign.
The latest victory now puts Simba on 69 points after 26 matches, just a single point behind Yanga, who have also played the same number of games.
With four rounds remaining, the title race is now wide open.
In Sunday’s match, KMC stunned Simba early on, scoring in the 8th minute through Rashid Chambo, who unleashed a powerful strike from outside the box that beat goalkeeper Mussa Camara.
That goal marked the third one Camara has conceded in the four rescheduled matches.
Camara let in goals against Pamba Jiji (5-1 win), Mashujaa (2-1 win), and now KMC. The only clean sheet came in a 1-0 win over JKT Tanzania.
Despite conceding, Simba’s ability to consistently secure wins reflects their growing dominance.
Simba equalized just eight minutes later through striker Steven Mukwala, who finished off a well-worked play initiated by Joshua Mutale.
The Ugandan forward, making his third consecutive start, found the net in the 16th minute.
That goal was Mukwala’s 10th of the season, placing him third on Simba’s scoring chart behind Charles Jean Ahoua (15 goals) and Leonel Ateba (12).
This internal competition is driving Simba’s attacking force to new heights.
However, Mukwala could have ended the first half with a brace but squandered two clear-cut chances during injury time.
He made up for it early in the second half, scoring his second goal in the 47th minute after outsmarting the KMC defense.
The performance was a direct response to his fellow forward Leonel Ateba, who netted a brace in the previous match against Pamba Jiji.
This friendly rivalry between the two centre-forwards has kept Simba’s goal tally rising.
Simba now boast the most lethal attack in the league with 38 goals scored.
This firepower gives Coach Fadlu Davids confidence heading into the final four matches of the season.
Simba’s remaining fixtures are against Singida Black Stars, archrivals Yanga SC, relegated Kengold, and survival-chasing Kagera Sugar each match presenting unique pressure and stakes.
The highly anticipated clash against Yanga is shaping up to be the league’s title decider.
A victory for Simba in that fixture could see them overtake their rivals and reclaim top spot for the first time in months.
Beyond the league, Simba are also preparing for the CAF Confederation Cup final, where they face Moroccan giants RS Berkane.
The first leg will be played away on May 17, with the return leg set for May 25 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Coach Fadlu Davids has emphasized the importance of focus and discipline during this critical stretch.
“Every match is a final, and every minute counts,” he said, underlining the club’s ambitions on both domestic and continental fronts.
By completing their backlog with a perfect record over 11 intense days, Simba have made a powerful statement.
The race for the Premier League title is officially on, and the Lions are roaring louder than ever.
