President Samia reshuffles Ngorongoro Conservation Authority leadership

Mr Abdul-Razak Badru who was the director general of the Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSSF), now steps in as Conservation Commissioner of the Ngorongoro Authority

Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has revoked the appointment of Dr Elirehema Joshua Doriye as Conservation Commissioner of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) and appointed Mr Abdul-Razak Badru as his successor.

Before his NCAA appointment, Dr Doriye served as Managing Director of the National Insurance Corporation (NIC).

A statement issued by the directorate of Presidential Communication on May 26, 2025 did not offer any explanation for the abrupt termination of Dr Doriye’s role at NCAA.

Mr Badru, who was the director general of the Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSSF), now steps into the NCAA role.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, remains one of Tanzania’s most ecologically sensitive and politically significant regions, grappling with challenges such as human-wildlife conflict, tourism pressures, and conservation sustainability.

Mr Badru previously served as executive director of the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB).

He holds a Master’s in International Business Management from India’s prestigious Institute of Foreign Trade and a Bachelor’s in Sociology from the University of Dar es Salaam.

Further changes in public sector leadership

The reshuffle also affects PSSSF, where Dr Rhimo Simeon Nyansaho, formerly director of Business Development at Azania Bank, has been appointed as the new director general.

The NCAA remains a focal point for both conservation and political scrutiny, given its economic importance and environmental sensitivity.
