Dar es Salaam. Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Péter Szijjártó, arrived in Tanzania on September 29, 2025, for a one-day working visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in diplomacy, trade, and innovation.
Upon arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, Mr Szijjártó was received by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mr Cosato Chumi, together with senior government officials.
He was later officially welcomed by his host, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, at the Ministry’s offices in Dar es Salaam.
The two ministers held private discussions before leading bilateral talks that brought together senior officials and ministers from both Tanzania and Hungary.
The discussions centred on expanding cooperation in areas such as water infrastructure, technology, education, and trade.
During the visit, the ministers witnessed the signing of several key agreements, including a bilateral government agreement on a water supply project in Biharamulo District, Kagera Region.
They also observed the signing of memoranda of understanding between Hungary’s MeOut company and Tanzania’s Digital Centre on innovation, as well as between MeOut and the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA).
In addition, Mr Szijjártó and Ambassador Kombo participated in the inauguration of the Dar es Salaam office of Hungary’s Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, an initiative expected to facilitate stronger diplomatic engagement and support Hungarian investments in Tanzania.
Mr Szijjártó’s visit reflects the growing partnership between Tanzania and Hungary, particularly in development cooperation and trade promotion. It is his second official trip to Tanzania, following an earlier visit in March 2024.
