Tanzania to host landmark international horticulture stakeholders conference          

Organized by the Tanzania Horticulture Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, the event aims to discuss opportunities, address challenges, and formulate strategies for the growth and development of the sector

Dodoma. A major conference bringing together international and domestic stakeholders in the horticulture (fruits and vegetables) sector is set to take place in Dar es Salaam, on November 12-13, 2025.

Organized by the Tanzania Horticulture Association (TAHA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, the event aims to discuss opportunities, address challenges, and formulate strategies for the growth and development of the sector.

Boosting collaboration and productivity

This inaugural event, which is slated to become an annual gathering, is expected to host over 400 participants.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Gerald Mweli, told reporters here that the conference will be a catalyst for boosting collaboration between the Government, the Private Sector, and Development Partners in enhancing fruits and vegetable farming.

Stakeholders will have the opportunity to deliberate on critical issues, including policies, technology adoption, market access opportunities, and the infrastructure required to increase productivity in the horticulture value chain.

Mr Mweli further elaborated that the fruits and vegetables sector remains a vital source of income for farmers and the nation at large, citing its crucial contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and foreign exchange earnings.

Modern technology and market access

Dr. Jacqueline Nkindi, the Chief Executive Officer of TAHA, the private sector apex body promoting and developing the horticulture sector in the country, emphasized the meeting’s role in capacity building.

She noted the conference will equip farmers with the skills to utilize modern technology and open up new international markets.

Dr Nkindi also disclosed TAHA’s ambitious targets, revealing the association’s goal to increase the value of horticultural production to approximately $2 billion between 2030 and 2035.

Government investment praised

Adding to the commendation, Ms Irene Mlola, the Director of the Cereal and Mixed Produce Regulatory Authority (COPRA), expressed gratitude to the government for its continued investment in the Agricultural Sector.

She asserted that these investments have successfully increased efficiency and competitiveness in horticultural production.
