Yanga dominate Prisons to keep first place

The victory sees Yanga consolidate their position at the top of the Mainland Premier League table with 41 points, further underlining their credentials as serious title contenders

Young Africans SC continued their impressive march in the Mainland Premier League with a commanding 3-0 victory over Tanzania Prisons in a well-contested fixture played on April 4 at KMC Stadium.

Heading into the match, Yanga were fully aware of the importance of securing maximum points to maintain their lead at the summit and they approached the encounter with composure, tactical discipline and clear attacking intent.

The opening phase of the match saw Tanzania Prisons adopt a cautious approach, sitting deep and organising their defensive lines in a bid to frustrate Yanga’s attacking rhythm.

Despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession, Yanga initially found it difficult to break through a resilient Prisons backline, with the first half ending goalless.

However, the complexion of the game changed dramatically after the restart.

Yanga returned for the second half with renewed intensity, sharper movement and greater urgency in the final third qualities that quickly paid dividends.

The breakthrough came courtesy of Allan Okello, who calmly slotted home the opening goal after a well-crafted attacking move, injecting confidence and momentum into the Yanga side.

With the deadlock broken, Yanga grew in authority and began to stretch their opponents.

Their persistence was rewarded again when Mudathir Yahya doubled the lead, capitalising on defensive lapses from Prisons.

As the match progressed, Yanga maintained control, dictating the tempo and limiting any meaningful response from their opponents.

The dominance was eventually sealed by Pacome Zouzoua, who added the third goal with a clinical finish, putting the result beyond doubt and capping off a thoroughly professional performance.

Tanzania Prisons, to their credit, showed discipline in the first half but ultimately struggled to cope with Yanga’s increased tempo and attacking quality after the break.

Their inability to convert defensive resilience into offensive threat proved costly.

The victory sees Yanga consolidate their position at the top of the Mainland Premier League table with 41 points, further underlining their credentials as serious title contenders.

With consistency, squad depth and attacking efficiency on their side, they continue to set the pace in what is shaping up to be another competitive campaign.
