Yanga continue to do what they do best winning matches and staying firmly at the top of the Mainland Premier League table as they push to defend their title for a fifth consecutive season.
In the spotlight once again was attacking midfielder Allan Okello, who looks simply unstoppable at the moment.
The champions secured a 3-1 victory over Namungo today, May 25, 2026 at the KMC Complex in Mwenge, Dar es Salaam, a result that lifted them to 60 points at the summit.
While Yanga march on, Namungo’s struggles deepened.
They are now without a win in 16 consecutive competitive matches, their last victory coming in a 1-0 win over KMC.
Before that, they had also beaten Coastal Union (1-0), Mbeya City (1-0) and Dodoma Jiji (2-0).
Since then, Namungo have drawn seven and lost nine, including their CRDB Federation Cup round of 16 exit against TRA United.
In the match, Yanga dominated the first half, patiently probing a well-organised Namungo defence that largely sat deep and absorbed pressure.
The breakthrough came in the 26th minute through Duke Abuya, who finished off a swift attacking move.
The build-up saw Mohamed Damaro win possession, release Allan Okello, who in turn found Mudathir Yahya before Abuya surged through the middle, beat the defence and slotted home.
Namungo, however, responded with their only meaningful attack of the half and it brought a goal.
In the 40th minute, Salum Kabunda met a long cross from right-back Bakari Hussein to level the score.
It was Kabunda’s second consecutive goal, having also scored in a 1-1 draw against Mbeya City.
The equaliser briefly raised questions over Yanga’s defensive stability, with goalkeeper Djigui Diarra conceding for the first time in recent games after a solid run alongside centre-backs Bakari Mwamnyeto and Ibrahim Abdallah “Bacca”.
Yanga had kept clean sheets in their previous 3-0 league win and their CRDB Cup fixture, but had earlier conceded in a 3-2 defeat to Dodoma Jiji.
The first half ended 1-1, prompting both coaching benches Yanga’s led by Abdihamid Moallin alongside Patrick Mabedi, and Namungo’s under Juma Mgunda to head into the dressing rooms with work to do.
Yanga returned for the second half with a change, introducing Edmund John for Damaro in midfield.
The adjustment reshaped their structure, pushing Mudathir deeper while Edmund added attacking thrust from midfield.
The champions regained control and went ahead in the 53rd minute through Okello, who reacted quickest to a cross from Clement Mzize after Namungo failed to clear their lines.
The goal came after a costly error from Namungo captain Jacob Massawe, whose misplaced pass was intercepted, allowing Yanga to launch a quick attack that Okello finished clinically.
It was Okello’s 10th league goal, extending his purple patch to three consecutive matches, underlining his growing influence since joining the club in the January 2026 transfer window.
He added his second and Yanga’s third in the 85th minute, taking his tally to 11 goals and closing in on Azam’s Feisal Salum, who leads the scoring chart with 12.
