Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed a new Director General of the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade), replacing Dr Latifa Mohammed Khamis in a wider reshuffle of senior government officials.
The changes were announced on Wednesday July 22, 2026 by Chief Secretary Amb Moses Kusiluka.
Mr Ephraim Balozi Mafuru has been appointed Director General of TanTrade.
Before the appointment, he served as Director General of the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB).
Dr Khamis has been promoted to the post of Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Vice President’s Office (Union Affairs).
The leadership changes come days after TanTrade successfully concluded the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), popularly known as Sabasaba.
The Golden Jubilee edition ran from June 28 to July 13 and attracted exhibitors from more than 30 countries.
It marked five decades of one of East and Central Africa’s largest trade and investment exhibitions.
TanTrade is the government agency responsible for promoting Tanzania’s domestic and international trade.
It organises the annual Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair and supports exporters, investors and businesses seeking access to regional and international markets.
Over the years, the authority has played a central role in promoting Tanzanian products and facilitating trade links across Africa and beyond.
During her tenure, Dr Khamis oversaw preparations and delivery of the Golden Jubilee edition of the trade fair.
The event showcased Tanzania’s industrial, agricultural, manufacturing and services sectors while providing a platform for business networking and investment promotion.
The appointments formed part of a broader reshuffle affecting several ministries and government institutions.
Ms Priska Burton Lwangili was appointed Deputy Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office, (Public Service Management and Good Governance).
She previously served as Director of Human Resources Management and Administration in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government).
Mr Abdallah Hassan Mitawi was transferred from the Vice President’s Office to become Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport.
Amb Baraka Haran Luvanda moved from the Vice President’s Office to become Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Constitution and Legal Affairs.
Dr Franklin Jasson Rwezimula was transferred from the Ministry of Constitution and Legal Affairs to serve as Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Dr Maduhu Isaac Kazi moved from the Ministry of Home Affairs to become Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Vice President’s Office responsible for Environment.
The Presidency also announced that the swearing-in ceremonies for the newly appointed Deputy Permanent Secretaries will be held on a date to be announced later.
