TRA and BASATA ink harmonious partnership

Dar es Salaam. In the bustling heart of Dar es Salaam, a pivotal moment unfolded as the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and the National Arts Council (BASATA) on Tuesday came together to sign a significant agreement aimed at enhancing tax compliance and protecting artists’ works.

This partnership was celebrated as a transformative step for the nation’s artistic community.

During the signing ceremony, TRA’s Commissioner General, Mr Yusuph Mwenda, addressed a gathering of artists, business owners, and government officials.

His voice resonated with conviction as he emphasized the invaluable contributions artists make to the national economy.

“Artists are not just creators; they are essential players in our economic landscape,” he stated.

Mr Mwenda encouraged all artists to register and obtain their Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN), highlighting that this would empower them to advocate for tax payment and encourage the public to participate actively in contributing to the nation’s revenue.

The atmosphere was charged with optimism as Mr Mwenda expressed gratitude to the business community for their timely tax payments.

He extended warm wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, while also urging those with tax arrears to settle their debts by December 31.

This call to action aimed to inspire responsibility and accountability among all stakeholders.

In a passionate speech, BASATA’s Executive Secretary, Dr Kedmon Mapana, described the agreement as a monumental opportunity for the arts sector, which had often been sidelined in the past.

“This collaboration will strengthen the role of the arts in our society,” he declared.

Dr Mapana articulated the council’s vision to support artists rather than control them, a refreshing shift in approach that resonated with many present.

This initiative was welcomed with enthusiasm, as it indicated a commitment to not only fostering artistic growth, but also enhancing the overall economic landscape.

As the sun set over the vibrant city, artists and officials alike felt a renewed sense of purpose.

The partnership between TRA and BASATA symbolized more than just an agreement; it represented a shared vision for a thriving creative economy.

With renewed hope and collaboration, the artists of Tanzania were poised to reclaim their rightful place as pivotal contributors to the nation’s prosperity.

As the discussions continued, the conversation turned to the promising future of commerce in Dar es Salaam.

TRA representatives announced their readiness to assist businesses around the clock, ensuring that the economic engine of the city would continue to thrive.
