Dar es Salaam. Tanzanian envoy to the Union of Comoros, Saidi Yakubu, has held talks with President Azali Assoumani on Thursday 16 January at the State House in Moroni as the two neighbouring countries seek to advance their relations to higher levels.
A statement that was availed to media houses yesterday said the discussions between the two centred on identifying strategies and plans to bolster cooperation between Tanzania and Comoros in 2025.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr Yakubu expressed gratitude to President Assoumani and his government for their support throughout 2024.
“This cooperation has significantly enhanced the Tanzanian embassy’s ability to execute its mandate effectively,” Amb Yakubu said.
Amb Yakubu noted that between May and December 2024, the embassy facilitated several impactful initiatives for the benefit of citizens from both nations.
Among these was the inaugural session of the Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation, held in July 2024 in Dar es Salaam, during which multiple agreements were signed.
Additionally, the embassy coordinated a Business and Investment Forum focused on agriculture, livestock, and transport.
The event provided a platform for entrepreneurs and businesspeople from both countries to devise collaborative strategies.
Looking ahead to 2025, Amb Yakubu stated that the embassy aims to strengthen economic and social ties, attract investors, and foster collaboration between the private sectors of the two nations.
He also revealed Tanzania’s readiness to support Comoros by providing Kiswahili teaching materials and textbooks, should the language be incorporated into the Comorian education curriculum.
For his part, President Assoumani commended the efforts of the Tanzanian embassy in enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in economic and social sectors.
He noted that these efforts underscore the brotherhood shared by the peoples of the two nations.
The President encouraged the embassy to continue attracting Tanzanian investors to establish operations in Comoros to support development efforts.
President Assoumani reaffirmed Tanzania’s status as a true ally of Comoros and pledged his government’s commitment to fostering collaboration in various sectors, including education.
He emphasised that promoting Kiswahili would help bridge gaps between traders and facilitate smoother interactions for Comorians visiting Tanzania.
The discussions between President Assoumani and Amb Yakubu reaffirmed Comoros’ commitment to enhancing its strategic partnership with Tanzania.
