Dar es Salaam/Zanzibar. President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi joined Muslim worshippers on Monday in separate prayers marking Eid ul-Fitr, which signals the end of the holy month of Ramadhan.
In Dar es Salaam, President Samia attended the Eid prayers at the Mohamed VI Mosque, located at the headquarters of the National Muslim Council of Tanzania (BAKWATA) in Kinondoni.
The event, held on March 31, 2025, brought together hundreds of worshippers who gathered to observe the prayers as part of the culmination of the fasting month.
Addressing the faithful after the prayers, President Samia called for unity, peace, and continued devotion to national development.
She urged Tanzanians to uphold the values of love, harmony, and cooperation, saying such principles are essential in fostering national cohesion and progress.
Meanwhile, in Zanzibar, President Mwinyi joined congregants for Eid ul-Fitr prayers at Jamiu Zinjibari Mosque in Mazizini, within the Urban West Region.
The prayers, attended by government officials, religious leaders, and members of the public, underscored the significance of the occasion in promoting spiritual reflection and communal solidarity.
President Mwinyi extended his best wishes to all Muslims, calling on them to embody the virtues of generosity, patience, and gratitude beyond Ramadhan.
He also emphasised the importance of preserving Zanzibar’s cultural and religious heritage, urging citizens to work together for the prosperity of the Isles.
Eid ul-Fitr, a major Islamic festival, is marked by prayers, feasting, and acts of charity.
It follows a month of fasting, prayer, and self-discipline, reflecting a period of spiritual renewal and social responsibility.
